History

The Rokeby Child Care service commenced at the Neilson Park Community Centre in December 1981 under the name of Rokeby Wee Care Centre, until funding for the establishment of a Neighbourhood Centre in 1982.

However the centre was unable to operate until the completion of the new premises in 1993. Subsequently a change a name occurred in 1983 from the Rokeby Wee Care to Rokeby Neighbourhood Centre Inc.

The centre was just a dream for many years, for a small group of very dedicated people in Rokeby, that saw the need for a child care centre in the area, most of the people in the group had very little skills in the areas of dealing with the bureaucracy and all the legal issues associated with setting up a new service and becoming incorporated, however this was not a deterrent for this group.

Most of the group had small children of their own and were involved with local playgroup and school. A survey was conducted to assess the need for a child care centre. The groups thoughts were confirmed , they were on a mission, they proved to be a very story group, becoming experts in dealing with politicians and submission writing, persistence proved success and the centre was opened by Hon John Cleary MHA on the 7th October 1983.

Unfortunately the group that worked so hard for the centre were not able to use the child care service as their children were too old. As the years went by the Rokeby Neighbourhood Centre became more aware of the ever-changing need of this community. it began developing and proving a vast rang of programs and services to assist this community and it's residents to reaching it full potential. Even today the Rokeby Neighbourhood Centre still continues to maintain a high quality of service that will enrich and enhance the Rokeby community.

In 2005 RNC's address changed from 103 Tollard Drive to just up the road to 85 Tollard Drive.
